Interview Coaching
People who contact us wanting job interview training often
state that nerves get the better of them, they don't know how
to answer questions to demonstrate their skills, or they ramble
through the interview aimlessly. The result is the same -
disappointment and frustration at failing to secure the
opportunity they were presented with.
Others tell us they are articulate and confident during
interviews. They are able to build rapport and manage the
interview process with ease, yet are puzzled as to why are
aren't offered jobs.
To succeed at job interviews, it is important to understand
the various elements of interviewing and the "art and
science" of demonstrating your skills, personality and
competence through the responses you give, both verbally and
non-verbally.
If you have gotten to the interview stage, you've
been identified as a potentially suitable candidate.
Now, you must to convince your potential
employer that you are THE person for the role.
There's no room for error here - little things like a nervous
laugh, and even the "wrong" tone of voice could
impact you negatively.
How Interview Coaching will
help you:
- Understand the psychology and strategy behind interview
questioning.
- Latest interview techniques - what employers are
looking for when they ask you specific questions.
-
Articulate your answers according to your
personal experience, rather than
provide "template" reponses
that sound contrived.
-
Tricky "questions" - how to address perceived
weaknesses such as returning to work
after a personal sabbatical or changing
careers
-
Answer open ended questions effectively and
succinctly while highlighting your strenghts.
-
Demonstrate your suitability to the role, the team
and the company.
-
What to do before, during and after the interview
to maximise your chances of being
offered the job.
-
Create a positive emotional
response - give your potential
employers the confidence that they are making
the right decision by selecting you.
-
Be believeable by communicating congruently
verbally and nonverbally (including gestures, body
language, tone of voice, pitch, facial expressions
and dress style)
"Just a quick email to let you know that I
received a letter of offer for promotion yesterday. Thank you
for your assistance with my interview preparation. The sessions
certainly helped focus my mind on the interview process, and
helped me to develop an interview strategy. Of particular value
was your practical advice on how to handle interview
questions, how to discuss my style of scientific leadership and
how to communicate my committment to upholding the APS
values" Scott M, Scientist
