In career coaching, we work with you to plan, manage and
execute your career advancement strategies. It is a process
where you are involved in determining your career progression
and job satisfaction rather than waiting passively for
opportunities to arise.
Examples of situations we
address in Career Coaching
- You are starting a new job and
want to be equipped with the skills and the mindset to
thrive in your workplace.

promotion within your company and want to
plan your steps forward.
- You are in a leadership
position and want to become a more effective

career by applying for new roles and want to
maximise your chances of succeeding in the job search.

Case Studies
Managing Expectations in A New
Role
1. Situation: "John" started a new job
and soon found himself struggling in managing the expectations
of his boss. He felt that the lack of support, training and
orientation made the situation even more difficult. Wanting to
make a good impression during his probationary period, John was
reluctant to ask too many questions as he felt it might make
him seem incompetent in the role.
Result: We helped John with practical
strategies to communicate his needs diplomatically and to be
specific about the support he needed . We taught him
communication techniques that enabled him to ask questions in
ways that actually displayed his knowledge rather show a lack
of it, assisted him to be strategic in how he approached
difficult situations, and how to proactively manage the
expectations of his boss and peers.
2. Fitting in a new work
environment and culture
Situation: "Sarah" moved to Australia
to take up a senior executive role in a close knit
organisation. Whilst being highly qualified and capable, she
was made aware that many people held negative stereotypes of
the country she was from - a factor that could have a negative
impact on her role as a leader.
Result: We worked with Sarah to help
her manage perceptions, create a good impression, and build
rapport effectively with her staff and peers. We taught her how
to develop a communication style that was more suited to her
new environment. Sarah deligently put what she learnt into
practice and found that her staff and peers responded
positively to her style.
Client 3: Discovering and
pursuing a new career
Situation: "Tony" felt stuck in his
role. He had been working in 12-month contract positions for
the last seven years and wanted to stay in his current role for
at least 2 years as he felt he needed to demonstrate
"stability".
Results: In coaching Tony, we discovered he
was simply not interested in the subject matter of his work. We
helped with strategies to improve his motivation levels but
advised him to consider a career change for long term
satisfaction.
After participating in our Career Foundations program, Tony
identified a new career direction that fit in with his goals,
personality and interests. He studied part time in the evenings
while remaining at his job. Shortly before completing his
Graduate Certificate in his new field of study, we worked with
Tony again on a career marketing strategy to help him launch
himself in his new field, including creating his resume and
coaching him in interview techniques.
We are happy to report that Tony is now working in his new
field of choice - and is very happy!
